Hey There!

Can anybody give me a copy of the MeRC Apple Cider Recipie that is used for Madrigal? I have a stand of Apple trees in my yard and I would like to put them to good use.

Hello All!
The first meeting of the year will be Thursday...er, later today... 6:30 pm in Stockholm. We will be discussing important Shakopee issues and there will be girls in corsets. See you all there.

so, since the unfortunate, but timely discovery of the sad closing of the Shakopee festival a week too early for our MeRC populace, I wanted to get the ball rolling on a plan to still go to a RenFair. there are bunches of options that I see.

1) Still attend Shakopee but go on the first weekend after classes. that is the 9th through the 11th. it would be really hard to get everything together and still kinda hard to get everyone back and such for classes on Monday.

2) Attend Shakopee on the second weekend of the block (16th - 18th) Easier to pull everything together but still in the middle of the block.

3) Attend Shakopee on the third weekend of the block (23rd - 25th) Still easier to plan for everything but right before finals week. !!

4) Attend a different Fair.
4a) attend Kansas City Ren Fest over Block break. the ease of having all block to get things coordinated and being able to leave on thursday instead of Friday. yay! drawbacks: unable to see our friends at MN and unknown residency in KC.
4b) Attend The Iowa Ren Fest in Ammana on the weekend before school starts (3&4th) this poses lots of dificulties because it would be very hard to plan. however, we would not have to find lodging and the gate price is much cheaper.

PLEASE comment on this post with your ideas. ALL of you! I really want to have a MeRC trip to a Ren Fair! I love you guys and want to have a great time this year too.

As Carly brought to the officers attention, Shakopee ends on the 25th of August.
First BLock break starts on the 28th.

the current suggestion is leaving that last weekend (23rd) after class, attenf the fair Saturday and drive back Sunday.

What do you all say?

The last meeting of the year will take place this Thursday at 6:30 in the lower Commons. Everyone is encouraged to attend and wear their best garb. There will be a workshop on medieval insults, and it is sure to be a good time. Hope to see you all there!

If any of you didn't already know, MeRC is having a picnic on the lawn next to King Chapel at 4 p.m. this coming Wednesday. There'll be food, foam weapons to spar with, apples to bob for, and general merriment. We hope to see you all there. RSVP to j-crowl@cornellcollege.edu by Monday with your Cornell ID number so that we can requisition food from Sodexho for you. (Note that this will take the place of one of your meals.)

Since we're getting the food from Sodexho we can't provide food for alumni, but we'd still really love to see any alums who'll be in the area Wednesday afternoon. If you're one of the MeRC/C&G alums coming in for Jen-Con, it'll be a great way to kick off the weekend!

Amusnig Stories! [Apr. 19th, 2005|08:25 am]
Cornell College Medieval & Renaissance Club

Since there's this nifty MERC group now, how about wacky and wild stories?

For example: The first year I did the Jester for Madrigal, we had a script worked out and entertainment and all sorts of fun stuff. However, Shiney didn't know much about Madrigal dinners and so would get nervous when people were just eating.

I had been told, as the Jester, two things:

1) You will perform no more than three times, so have about three 4-5 minutes "skits" that amuse and engage.

2) You will perform these skits when the King demands.

So, I got together a wooing contest, a mock sword fight and....something else I don't remember.

Now, Shiny was the King and, as I said, was strangely uncomfortable with silence, fearing people weren't having a good time. I don't remember how many times he wuold yell: "JESTER!" *clap clap* "Entertain us!"

The end result was me doing prat falls, hoping not to kill myself, to end the night.
